The third edition of the State of SupTech Report—the global benchmark on supervisory technology—has been released by the Cambridge SupTech Lab, Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School, and Digital Transformation Solutions teams.
This year’s report provides critical insights drawn from data collected from 139 financial authorities across 100 countries, offering a uniquely global and longitudinal perspective.
Key findings include:
- Global adoption accelerates: 171 authorities in 107 countries now use suptech. The adoption gap between advanced (74%) and emerging (60%) economies has narrowed sharply (from 25% to 14%).
- Strategies deliver measurable impact: Authorities with a formal suptech strategy are nearly twice as likely to implement applications at scale (68%) compared to those without (36%), underscoring the importance of institutional commitment and long-term planning.
- The rise of Generative AI: 27% of authorities are piloting or exploring the use of GenAI for supervisory use cases, although concerns remain around data governance, quality, privacy, and explainability.
- Capacity gaps persist: Limitations in data analytics (63%) and technical IT skills (57%) continue to pose significant barriers. Without targeted investment in skills and governance frameworks, digital transformation risks stalling.
ASBA contributed to the report by extending the survey’s reach, helping to compile one of the most comprehensive and diverse datasets on suptech from financial authorities to date.
